5 useful weaning products that won’t break the bank

So you’ve entered the weaning stage and there’s so much to learn and research about allergies, baby-led vs spoon feeding etc. Well, I’ve rounded up 5 of the most useful weaning products I bought when weaning my daughter. Hope it helps!

1. The High Chair

I always wondered whether it was better to go for those expensive and cushy highchairs or a more minimalist one and, on our weaning journey, we discovered that it’s WAY easier to clean the high chairs which don’t have any small nooks and crannies behind the seat cover. And, let’s get this in perspective, you’ll probably be cleaning that high chair at least three times a day. #ad

This robust, easy-to clean high chair can be used from one month plus as an adjustable floor-height chair, high chair and reclining chair so is really good value for money.

It’s thick padding and soft VEGAN leather means that it is comfortable for your little one and it comes with an all important 5 point safety harness as well as a removable food tray. It arrives assembled and can be folded to a more compact size. I can’t recommend it enough!

Honestly, we tried buying plates and bowls that gripped the surface but ended up just putting our baby food directly onto the high chair tray for most meals.

2. Feeding spoons

#ad We’ve been using our BPA free Munchkin White Hot Infant Safety Spoons from 6 months until the present day. They’re so baby friendly and versatile and what’s better, they turn white if the temperature of the food / liquid is too hot as a safety precaution. They also come in a bigger pack but without the white hot sensitivity. I just really love the Munchkin brand for quality and durability and love their weaning products.

You can also go for the regular pack Munchkin Soft Tip Infant Spoons which don’t come with white hot sensitivity but have more spoons in one packet.

Whether you’re feeding your baby or trying out baby-led weaning, these spoons are the perfect size for a baby’s mouth and little hands to grip, plus they’re colourful and cute! Their soft tips means that your baby won’t hurt their mouth when chewing the spoon and it’ll be flexible enough to endure a lot of throwing about.

3. Water bottle / Cup

Next on the list of must-have weaning products is the Munchkin transition and trainer cups.

Starting from around 6 months, it’s a good idea to start offering your baby water alongside their meals. It’s better to avoid juice so as to avoid filling your baby’s stomach up with liquids.

#ad We really loved the Munchkin Gentle Transition Trainer Cup for our little girl. We hadn’t bottle-fed up to the point we started weaning and she still took to it really well and started drinking from the spout around one month into weaning.

Even if you notice that your baby isn’t interested in drinking water on their own, be sure to offer it to them for now and keep exposing them to the cup. The more familiar they are with the water bottle, the more likely they’ll be to want to pick it up and try to use it. The same goes for the food you offer your child and the utensils that you provide.

If you’re interested in more of a cup than a bottle, the Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup encourages your baby to take sips without the risks of spillages. The handles are easy for babies to hold and they come in a pack of two!

4. Food cube tray

#ad As well as really enjoying Annabel Karmel’s recipes for weaning up to toddler meals and selection of meal plans in her book: ‘New Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner’, I would also recommend investing in one or two NUK food cube trays. It makes freezing your batch cooked purees and baby meals really easy.

The trays are made of a flexible material which turns inside out making it easy and convenient to pop your cube of food out for reheating. No struggle necessary. Each cube is a suitable size for one portion of food.

5. Food Pacifier

These food pacifiers are great if you’re starting to transition from puree to solid food or looking for something to put fruit in for your baby to munch on. You can also try putting some frozen puree in there to help numb your baby’s gums if they’re teething. Delicious snack, teething aid and pacifier all in one! #ad
